linkedin twitter facebook Request to reuse this

PMI Academic Resources invites project management scholars and practitioners to participate in its inaugural Teaching Case Competition, which launched on 2 January 2015.

Teaching with cases helps to create an energizing atmosphere that inspires students to develop critical thinking and analytical skills. The challenge for faculty has been to find high-quality teaching cases in project management.

This competition aspires to build a repository of high-quality teaching cases available for faculty to use in undergraduate and postgraduate project management programs.

The theme of this year’s competition is Project Management and Disaster Relief. The competition will be judged by a panel of expert case writers and project management scholars, with monetary prizes for the top three cases, as follows:

  • 1st Prize: US$3,000
  • 2nd Prize: US$2,000
  • 3rd Prize: US$1,000

The top three finalists will be invited to PMI Global Congress 2015—North America, where the winners will be announced. The prize-winning cases will be published through PMI.

The early submission deadline is 1 April 2015. See below for complete guidelines and submission details.

You have the opportunity to take not one, but TWO eLearning courses at no cost to you and earn PDUs to maintain your credential!

A Space Odyssey - The Ultimate Communications Management Mission

The year is 2075 – project management now takes place in outer space, presenting myriad new challenges. A small international community of scientists has colonized Mars to conduct experiments and explore the environment. Join your team at Mission Control, just as the world learns that an asteroid is heading to Mars and jeopardizing the lives of your colonists. Field questions from the media, handle the fallout of an untimely communication leak, and keep your stakeholders apprised of rapid developments as you begin to address the technical challenges of saving your colonists.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to manage communications in a manner that insures that strategic goals are met and create an atmosphere for effective stakeholder engagement. To do this, you will be able to:

  • Use and amend the communication management plan to outline a communication strategy for the project.
  • Listen actively and effectively to clearly understand issues, concerns, and questions.
  • Ask the right questions to insure common understanding between sender and receiver of the communication.
  • Select the appropriate level of information for a variety of audiences to prevent miscommunication and misunderstandings.
  • Manage and control communications in a way that provides timely information to appropriate recipients in order to build and maintain support for the project.

Program Management Success Series: Analyze, Plan and Communicate Program Benefits

In this course in the new Program Management Success Series, users will shadow an experienced program manager in the development of a benefits realization plan and a benefits register. The benefits realization plan and the benefits register help the program manager to determine program benefits and how those benefits will be communicated.

This course will cover:

  • Identifying the phases of benefits management
  • Recognizing components of a benefits realization plan
  • Identifying the five main tasks of benefits management and planning
  • Assessing the thoroughness of a benefits register
  • Understanding how benefits are the positive outcome of a program

Nearly 75% of executives believe their company’s performance could improve if their employees gained certain key skills*. One of these critical skills – project management – can enhance your marketability and give you the flexibility to move across projects, organizations, industries and geography.
