Project Management Roles and Responsibilities

Format: Specifications/Procedures

UPDATED TEMPLATE! The project management roles and responsibilities template is designed to consider the project management support that is required in managing and supporting a project.

The template reflects the role and contributions of the project manager, as well as Project Management Office (PMO) and methodology support roles, where those exist.

In addition to defining the responsibilities that can be associated with each role, the template guides thinking about how those responsibilities need to be addressed in supporting the specific project. For each responsibility:

  • Identify the specific actions that are required to support the project. Describe what someone in the role needs to do and the behaviours and actions they need to take to successfully fulfill the responsibility. Where a responsibility isn’t relevant for a particular project, mark that as such also.
  • Define what success looks like in delivering on the responsibility. Think about the responsibility and the identified actions, and consider what that would look like when done well. Be specific about what makes the actions successful and what needs to occur that will most make a difference.
