![]() A set of interrelated techniques and/or activities, undertaken to achieve specific project goals and objectives in a timely-framed manner. This includes, among many other techniques, project estimation, resource planning, objectives setting, task scheduling, and project administration. To successfully manage projects, all project activities employ the justify, plan, activate, control, and end (JPACE) construct. These "management" tasks also need to be modeled in the project plans that are developed for all projects. Project management tools are often required and are helpful in estimating resources and timelines.
Procedures
InstructionsThe objective of "Define Project Approach" is to develop a clear vision of the project in terms of objectives, scope, deliverables, and tasks (see Objective Setting), based on the outcome of transition planning activities (See Transition Planning). Confirm project tasks and decompose the work breakdown structure, according to standards being used. Identify task dependencies, sequence, and degree of overlap. For every task and sub-task, check to include descriptions, deliverables, estimated resources required, and role assignments. Modify as required based on resource availability. (Use templates if available, adjusting assumptions as required.) Use a project management tool to produce a schedule. Modify the schedule to reflect any key dates and/or fixed duration activities. Determine any risks, and produce a final plan. Review plan with stakeholders. The completed project plan should contain the following:
