Status Reporting and Work Plan Template

By PMI Southern Caribbean Chapter

Topics: Construction, Schedule Management, Scheduling, Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)

Format: Report / Log

This template was developed for its use on construction projects. However, its format and ease of data entry allows it to be easily transferrable to numerous disciplines. Moreover, its development in Microsoft Excel makes the template an easily editable and user-friendly one. The zip file contains a PDF abstract, the template in Excel, and a sample template (in a PDF) that shows entries from a project.

The sample template shows one Project Package, which is further categorized into three Project Phases. The template can be modified to show as many project packages and phases as desired. The template is two-fold; in that it shows

  1. Project Status: The status of each work item, as well as the overall completion status by project phases can be represented. It is advised that these work items are in accordance to the Project’s Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), so that there is cohesion between documents.
  2. Projected Fortnightly Work Plan: This aspect of the template shows the overall percentage of work to be completed during the two-week period. It further shows the percentage of work to be completed in each work item, and gives a graphical representation of its daily execution.
