Where I am working, it is not allowed to say a PMO is being established because they think it will be directive and have high level of authority, so what other names have you used instead of PMO.

Interesting your question
Thanks for sharing

More important than the designation are the activities and responsibilities that the people in this structure will develop and / or have

Dear Luis, thank you. Functions are defined but people still don’t have them clear, that’s why I’m trying to find a name that can mean something positive for them.

I would agree that the term PMO has some stigmas associated with it but as Luis says, the name does not always denote the mandate or function.

Having said that, I'd pick a name which symbolizes what benefits the entity will provide rather than a functional title.

For example, if the PMO will be helping teams deliver better outcomes you could go with Project Delivery Excellence.

What's in a name?

I understand that some people have negative connotations about some terms/standard language but it is very important to have a meaningful names.

Actually it will be a good idea to have an open challenge to come up with an innovative name based on the core functions you are supporting in your organization.

Good luck to find a new name also please share the name once you decide.
