The processes and deliverables associated with project management and the Research Project Management (RPM) role within the Pfizer Pharmatherapeutics Research Unit (PTxRU) have been mapped to the PMI PMBOK (4th Ed.) knowledge areas and process group framework in order to understand how current project management practice within the group align with accepted PMI practices and to identify potential gaps. Key project management activities and tools associated with project initiating, planning, executing, monitor and controlling and closing will be discussed. The process and tools and their role in scope, time, cost, quality, HR, communication, procurement and risk management will be described. Areas where the RPM role and responsibilities differs from PMBOK framework are noted
