Project HEADWAY: Stop Calling Them “Soft” Skills
This presentation is supporting material for this video.
Leadership. Team development. Supervision. Coaching and mentoring. Political engagement. Negotiation. Communication.
Talk about these for long enough—a few minutes ought to do it—and someone will inevitably comment, “Oh, you mean soft skills.” As if these were collectively under the same umbrella, easily understood, fully appreciated, consistently defined and infallibly practiced the world over. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Soft skills, such as they are, are amongst the hardest things that you will learn to apply as a project manager. Excelling at these skills is the product of a lifetime of learning, and even then you will learn things that surprise you and catch you off guard.
There are still strategies you can employ and insights you can realize to engage with the messy human dimension of projects. They don’t necessarily work the way you think, but they are there. This webinar will provide you with insights on how to learn them and use them.
