Nolan describes how GE Appliances uses a clear North Star: “Zero Distance” to the customer. This allows for decentralized decision-making, less bureaucracy, and lets market signals guide action. Drawing on concrete examples such as edge innovation units and democratized AI adoption, he shows how leaders can create safer, faster paths to innovation while still aligning to strategy. Throughout the conversation, he emphasizes that agility is less about one-time transformation and more about continuous reinvention, iterative learning, and empowering people closest to the work and the customer.
