Overview
This webinar introduces the issue of workplace bullying and its impact on projects and project managers. Bullying can be as harmful in the workplace and on projects as it is in schools and other areas of society. Projects are subsets of workplaces and since project management is, for the most part, an activity that involves working very closely with others, the impact of a bully in a project is potentially lethal to project success.
The webinar’s main discussion points include the following: defining workplace bullying; identifying traits of bullies; identifying who get’s targeted; outlining the impacts of bullying on projects; discussing the health impacts of bullying; noting that workplace bullying is increasing; and providing an anti-bullying action plan for project managers.
There is a whitepaper that accompanies the webinar. Please find it on our site here: http://www.projectmanagement.com/white-papers/296911/Bullying-at-Work--An-Ethical-and-Leadership-Dilemma-for-Project-Managers. It provides more detail and research about bullying in project management. It also discusses actions that employers, project managers and targets/victims can take when confronted with workplace disrespect.
Project managers around the world are becoming more informed of the many negative impacts and costs associated with workplace bullying. If employers, project managers and senior executives take initiative in addressing bullying early on, much larger financial, ethical, legal, human resource and project problems will be avoided.Eventually, these initiatives will lead to wider support for zero tolerance for bullying in the workplace regardless of circumstance, societal norm, or jurisdiction.
