In our last Mind Mapping article we have given an overview why we think that Mind Mapping is that beneficial for project management. You can find some other articles, blogs and even webinars here at projectmanagement.com where mind mapping is already promoted.
For some reason most of them are relatively old and it seems that this topic has been lacked a bit in the past. I have a personal passion for Mind Mapping in general and for
Mind Mapping tools/software and their usage for project management especially and worked with Mindjet MindManager for instance since some years now.

And I am totally convinced that Mind Mapping could be a big help in making the project managers work easier and more efficient.
A surve
y by Mind Mapping expert Chuck Frey for instance, shows that business users of mind mapping believe their productivity has increased on average by 25%.

Mind mapping is being used across organizations to:

  • Increase productivity
  • Enhance meetings
  • Simplify request for proposals (RFP)
  • Overview knowledge management
  • Optimize project management
  • Improve collaboration and communication
  • and much more…

In addition i do believe that tool-supported Mind Mapping could be used to support more or less all the PMBoK Guide Processes and ITTO’s in a great way. And this is exactly what we want to realize; therefore we are actually working on an integrated approach which we called "MP4PM - Mind maPping for Project Management".

Starting with this blog we will introduce the most recent features of “MP4PM” over the next few days/weeks while resulting in a comprehensive introduction and overview as a webinar, kicking off a huge webinar series about the usage and how to apply “MP4PM” in your daily project work.

Here are the first two features we want to realize with “MP4PM”:

In our next blog we will not only provide the next two “MP4PM” features; we will also show you the very first deliverable/result of “MP4PM” as a sneak preview, so you can see what to expect in near future. And the bonus is: it is ready to use out of the box for anybody who wants to try. So stay tuned … ;)

Thank you so much Markus. Looking forward to following this closely. As I told you before, I just got my license for Mindjet, starting to dive into the different options of the tool and its integration with Microsoft Office products.

It is quite amazing how simple a MindMap can make what might seem more complex in bullet/paragraph form.

I'll bet on that webinar! I have used mindmapping before, and it has been a great help with organizing my thoughts. I only wish that there were more free, or inexpensive, mindmapping tools available other than pen and pad.

@Karthik: Thank you very much.

@William: If you do a google search you can find some good mind mapping tools also for free. XMind offers also a free version (for instance). If you do not have Mindmanager available (what is the one i am doing the maps with) you can use XMind at least for opening and reading the maps. May be there are also other free ones which could open the .mmap format. Mind Mnaager offers also a free trial for 30 days.

@Thilo: Thanks, looking forward also.

@William, like Markus says, XMind, but also Freemind. Both are platform agnostic; Windows, Mac, Linux, and are powerful tools.

XMind has some really great features. I liked it a lot, and a license is, IIRC, $100. Not too bad for what it offers. Actually, so far, I like XMind more.

Good Luck.

@Markus: have used professional mindjet MindManager 2016 for a current Project. It is really a great tool to structure your thoughts with your Team members together.

It serves further as a Team building tool since all the Team members to form a cohensive whole to generate ideas.

@Markus & @Andrew:

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check out your recommendations, and I'll search again as well. The last time that I tried (some time before this article) everything that I found came with a greater price tag than I was willing to try.

@Jing, I like the option of having a team involved in the process.

@Jing; yeah sounds great. Of course it does need a bit time to become confirm with the software and its features but then it develops a great effectiveness. I am absolutely convinced that Mindmanager and also the other tools could also be greatly used for most if not all the other PMBoK Guide Processes and that is exactly what we want to proof with our "MP4PM" initiative. Great to have you on board.

Hey Guys,

happy new year to you all.

Can anyone tell me how to manage that "rleated content/articles" thing?!
Some other bloggers have at the end of their articles such a reference and since i am producing an article series to this mind mapping thing i am highly interested in doing the same, but i can't figure out yet to do make this work ...
Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance!

Regards,

Markus

PS: I am actually working on Part IV of the series, but maybe there will be one or two other things coming before ... ;)

Hello Guys,

just a short status; i am actually very busy. I was adjusted to a new, very big and complex project within my company and so i have less time in the moment to work on MP4PM.
But it will go on, for sure, may be just a bit slower then in the last couple of weeks ...

If there is somebody out there who is interested in helping and participating with the development of MP4PM, please feel free to write me a note and lets discuss.

And if there are still some of you who didn't seen the very first webinar about "MP4PM" please have a look here:

https://goo.gl/F0JbJ4

It was a great experience and there where some great questions within the chat which (hopefully) all where answered in the webinar related Q&A section, please have a look here:

https://goo.gl/jrOZXQ

Any feedback is still much appreciated.

Looking forward to the upcoming webinar "MP4PM - develop project charter" ... ;)

Regards,

Markus
