The primary objective of this post is to discuss “the Influence of Social Media Tools Data Visualization Format on Decision Making in Project Management,” and to understand the benefits that project managers have when using Data Visualization formats for managing projects.

The objective is to discuss the influence of new types of visualization used by some Social Media Tools, and not the discuss themselves. The research results are analyzed from the perspective of a project manager.

Most researchers are focused on data visualization itself, but the value of this study is the focus on the influence that the format has over project managers decision making. What makes it more unique is that the analysis circles over the tools used, and not on the Social Media themselves.

“By visualizing data, we turn it into a landscape that you can explore with your eyes, a sort of information map, when you are lost in data, an information map is… useful.”  McCandless’s quote as cited in Cuesta and Kumar (2016, p. 6).

Even though McCandless stresses the importance of displaying data or information (Cuesta & Kumar, 2016, p. 56), it is easier to agree on the significance of data visualization than to recognize the type of data visualizing formats that are appropriate to use for a specific sector.”

Interesting topic to discuss. I have been discussing on this subject for the last 2 years (https://www.slideshare.net/esenor/social-project-manager ) and there are some good insights on how we can harness millennial behavior on a project management perspective.

Social Media: I think it's more on the utilization of social media more in terms of alternatives to more expensive collaboration tools/software. Social media is also more prevalent to millennials than other tools.

Data Visualization: I believe the key need for data visualization is in allowing for greater accumulation/presentation of vast sums of data/information so as to enable quicker and more insightful decision making. If the vast amount of data turns to be garbage then it doesn't matter the data visualization tool/software, most likely the decision inferred will be garbage as well.

For project management purposes, I think the best kind of visualization should start of the schedule level and I like the idea of presenting the project schedule like a Kanban Board (http://www.cambermast.com/agile-ideas-create-kanban-board-microsoft-project/) as at the end of the day, that's the key concern of project managers (work in progress, work to be done and work is complete)

Quote from Rosalinda Bernabe

"Remember, the purpose of this article is to show how project practitioners and business analysts can use visualization to talk about a topic. Giving the audience a lot of bullet points and a research paper will make them sleepy anyway. (depending on your audience of course). "
