Beyond the Stethoscope: How AI is Reshaping Hospital Operations (Part 7) – Empowering Communities Through AI Integration
Part 1 and Part 2 discussed details of stakeholders (more specifically, the medical team and patients), while Part 3 explored the role of regulatory agencies involved in AI projects for the hospital. Part 4 talked about the technical components of AI, and Part 5 gave us an outline of the pilot project. Part 6 discussed plans for a larger rollout in the hospital. In Part 7, we go over the next steps and future considerations for the AI integration project.
Deepa: What do you think is the future of AI for hospitals such as yours?
Dr. N: That’s a good question. I recently attended a conference themed on AI in healthcare. The bulk of questions from the participants were around prohibitive costs, regulatory requirements/strict governance, data management, and how they could advance, given the current state of digitization in their hospitals.
For large hospitals with a greater appetite for risk, the cost seemed a lesser concern. Panel discussions also had topics around how medical insurance companies were reacting to AI-enabled care. Would there be any changes in the reimbursement models, etc.?
I would like to answer your question about the future of AI in two ways.
