It's a good idea to complement your project by defining KPI's to present to your stakeholders. KPI's will demonstrate that the project is on track by meeting it's goals. Assemble your team to come up with ideas on what to measure and how you will achieve the measurement.
Project milestones are important, but they just mean that you reached a given point in the project. Stage your KPI's at milestones to get a thorough health check on the condition of the project then celebrate the milestone.
It's all about ensuring that you deliver the right results when you get to the finish line.

We need to have the right balance of both leading and lagging KPIs and more important is to translate those in finding issues(if any) that require attention or improvement.
Thank you Drake for sharing.
Thanks Drake! It's important to ensure that the KPIs are going to result in the "right" types of behavior and aren't just vanity metrics. For example, % complete doesn't mean much if you aren't looking at it holistically from an EVM perspective.

Well pointed Drake... The KPI play an important role when managing stakeholders expectations and are very helpful when well applied.

KPI's are also determined by the needs of the stakeholders. And to point out, there could be differing KPI requirements for both the internal team and stakeholders/client or different views of the same.

Totally agree. KPI's are very important in many ways.
Project strategy and sales strategy align so frequently in this world today. The very word process improvement is an indicator of just that -- and KPIs are the most important way of measuring the effectiveness of implementation.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you everyone for your feedback.

On point Drake.
KPI will make visible to stakeholders how your work is progressing without asking much.
