An alleged “official” body of knowledge concentrated around an interest group that is big by nature (every company and government does Projects) and underserved.  Constructed with voluntary work, work free of charge, which is used to profit: charge for a certification diploma; certification supposedly sufficient to demonstrate ability to take charge of complex work. Does passing an exam really gives you the right to take charge of high stakes projects?

The certification, the BOK book, the PDUs required for certification only offered through training companies that are not non-profit; all this is profitable business.

Of course, important discounts if you pay for a membership, that apart of the discount give very little if any other benefit.

Just facts, apart of all the good dreaming and stated good causes that never get to real terms:  Defense of the profession; fight for fair wages in the field; quality training materials in Universities, and some others alike.

Then, this is nothing else than a profitable business around making exams, training and giving the pubic the illusion of professional attainment.  The non-profit is just an illusion used to recruit free work that will generate good sales that are collected by other individuals, not by volunteers.

So, why does people keep volunteering?,  Is volunteers good will only used for making  profits by training companies?; Holding a volunteer badge with the organization logo makes you more attractive to job market?

This is a marketing enterprise; organizing and publicizing feasts is very important. It opens you doors. Even though you are not qualified for making  speeches, or giving training, or taking charge of complex projects. Marketing inflates you with artificial value that you really  does not possess. (Remember financial bubbles)

Holding a certificate really improves wages?, or people that is stubborn enough to pursue a certification is the kind of individuals with the stamina required to achieve better salary?

Pursuing a certification demonstrate commitment and better study skills, so commitment and better study skills are the real value or the BOK?

Why having an organization that really represents the Project managers, and comply with minimal standard rules is very difficult, but organizing parties (marketing) is not so difficult?

It is all about marketing to improve training clientele and not about promoting the profession.

Cui bono?, who really wins in this enterprise?,   Training companies, and people in control of charters that uses memberships fees for personal purposes, like promoting themselves so to have more clientele in their particular training companies.

Passing an exam does not make you a Project Manager

This is not a non-profit endeavor

Is there any kind of collateral benefits for general public?, public that is having an illusions that there is an organization that represent them.... a "collateral benefits" cannot be observed easily.
