Do you believe that RCM can be useful for projects?

In general RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) is a framework and considered a program for many organizations.
There are four basic principles defined by organizations globally for the RCM to be considered as Program
1. Is scoped and structured to preserve system function
2. Identifies failure modes, which are the ways in which something might fail. Failures are any errors or defects, especially ones that affect the customer, and can be potential or actual
3. Addresses failure modes by importance
4. Defines applicable maintenance task candidates and selects the most effective one in the case of important failure modes
The goals of RCM include the ability to evaluate, categorize, prioritize and understand the appropriate way to minimize the impact of failures. Ultimately, by performing RCM, an organization can develop maintenance schedules specific to each critical asset within a facility or organization.
Now we talked about assets what about project management when dealing with process and human assets, I often found that implementing the RCM program saved lots of construction project from failure or even costly implication
Successful implementation of a RCM process — coupled with connected sensors, tools and a CMMS system — will increase cost effectiveness, asset reliability, equipment uptime and provide an enhanced understanding of the level of risk that the organization must manage.
It can be applied on many management system for the value, tools and system which can be powerful to any organization Centralized PMO might be using RCM along with other system
The Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Project Manager’s Guide uses a clear, flexible process and set of criteria so an organization can assess what it takes to successfully conduct and implement an RCM project and avoid pitfalls along the way to experiencing measured results that add significantly to the bottom line.
You could be a project manager leading the RCM program.

I haven't heard of this before, so thanks for the peak into this area Riyadh.

Interesting, Riyadh. Is the RCM specific to a particular area in the construction industry? Is it a standard practice across or are there other 'competing' frameworks out there?
Sante, thanks for your honesty, it worth you search it
Andrew, thanks for your support actually it is not just for construction basically it is a system used and can be used over big manufacturing units or other big industry and many construction project managers started to use that approach
There are other systems I will post more but for now I can give you one is called EBAM.

Sante, many IT project managers works on project to develop RCM software and many works on GRC.
Today, the value proposition of next-generation governance, risk and compliance (GRC) — driving growth through transformative business value, while seamlessly integrating domain-specific technologies such as advanced risk modeling and governance with business intelligence and advanced analytics — offers business the potential for enhanced profitability and competitive advantages over industry peers.
Reliability centered maintenance (RCM) is a corporate-level maintenance strategy that is implemented to optimize the maintenance program of a company or facility. The final result of an RCM program is the implementation of a specific maintenance strategy on each of the assets of the facility.

Good article Riyadh!!! Is it part from program management??
Tamer, it could be both, thanks for your feed back
I was from the first generations to sell this service to oil and gas in 2003 I guess.
It is essential tool in Oil and Gas and it helps reduce shutdowns timed .
There are two types which we should mention, for rotating machines and static equipment
In my olden days it was mainly based on inspection data and environment.. It has been evoloved a lot now a days. adding sensors which can send data automatically and periodically
Kevin, thanks for your feedback, it is nice to know that you've already used this in asset management of oil & gas
Kevin, your golden days with RCM can shine again as you mentioned that too much technology evolved with implementing RCM nowadays using all sort of automation / barcode & AI and can be applied to any assets dynamic or static or people as assets.
Sante, I think I should write a blog to provide more information about RCM but that wont happen before august 18.
Thanks for sharing Riyadh!!
Sante, sorry I promised on Aug 18 but looks like it will happen in Oct.
