Everyone makes mistakes. Even if you are supposed to know a lot about a topic, it can be nearly inevitable that you will make a mistake or forget something you should have known.

A nice short clip with good advice, we all do make mistakes and leave things out of the WBS.

Sometimes it is hard to see the forest through the trees. As a new project manager it can feel really embarrassing to realize you forgot to do something, or do not know how to do it. It is important to have a sense of humility regardless of what level of experience you are at and realize you will make mistakes - just learn from them!

Good advice, Josh. Mistakes happen all the time. They occur for several reasons. The best advice to new project managers is to identify the error, find a resolution, and communicate both to the appropriate parties in the project. It is best to resolve mistakes as quickly as they are identified.

It's definitely best to resolve mistakes as quickly as possible. Not all workplaces (or project sponsors) are forgiving, so I would say that if you have the choice, new project managers should look for a company with a supportive environment and a mentoring scheme.

I fully agree Elizabeth, and dedicated a few lessons toward how to find companies just like that in my PM Career Coaching course because it's so important.
Neil and Elizabeth, thanks for reiterating the lesson that it's never too late. Even though it took longer than I would have liked for me to realize there was an issue, the sooner things are fixed, the better.
