| Embracing emerging technologies that are, in many cases virtually unknown, requires and individual or organization to be bold and somewhat daring. It is not for the faint of heart nor those who are risk adverse. A delicate balance of opportunity evaluation versus risk analysis is the challenge. Given all the technologies that have begun to emerge or on the verge of emerging creates new and unique technology applications. The opportunities are out there! Do you dare to be adventure into the new and untried? |
Another Warning about two emerging technologies
| In June 2018 while speaking at his daughter's high school graduation, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts warned the students and audience to “Beware the robots.” He went on to say "Artificial intelligence can change leaders into followers.“ This is just one example of multiple warnings about emerging technologies that have come out. | Please check out my session #4: Drones! Coming to a Project near You! Sound weird, odd, off beat? I was shocked about how drones are being used in a VERY COMMON project manager function! Also there is an article supporting that session coming soon as well. |
Keeping Up with the Changes and Disruption
| Recently during a think-tank session examining change and disruption due to emerging technologies, the question of keeping pace with all that is going on became a repeating topic and a fairly lively debate. Multiple times the topic of education came up. It is becoming more evident that professionals should be mandated to take at least 4 hours of continuing education that is focused on drivers of anticipated disruption that is likely to happen in the next 3 to 5 years. That brought up the issue of traditional education (college level) and if they are keeping pace with all that is happening. The question is if anyone is looking at how old many of the classes and textbooks are and if they are out of date. What are your thoughts? |
The race is on

| We have just passed the starting line of the largest era of emerging technology in history. Its perceived implications are overwhelming. As a reference point, we are where the Internet economy was in 1995. The difference is this is likely to be 4 times the size. Think of 4 times the disruption we experienced in the early stages of the Internet economy. I hope everyone has learned not to throw money at every wild idea that comes along like they did in 2000 and 2001. There are now 16 high velocity emerging technologies with a combined projected market of nearly $20 trillion. Multi-factor analysis example: One core business process that I examined has a sizable impact by 7 of the 16 emerging technologies! This is like to drive the complexity of our program and projects higher. It should also be noted that little if any experience currently exists with the emerging technologies - PMs or otherwise!
