| A new algorithm just cut 3D printing time in half! That was one of the greatest drawbacks this technology had. With this increase the production capabilities just doubled. Check it out!

| Recently the World Economic Forum published a piece stating “Innovation is one of the most important drivers of growth.” They go on and talk about emerging technologies and the need for integration with the business strategy. A number of forecasts for the growth of individual emerging technologies that are hot and growing put the HIGH estimate at $40 trillion by 2025. That is only 9 years away. Think about all the projects these emerging technologies will spawn between now and 2025. We all should be very busy!

| Over the past few weeks this blog has covered six emerging technologies. This included 3D Printing, Artificial Intelligence, Connected Vehicles, Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, and Wearable Technology. Combined these technologies will make-up a substantial number of programs and projects in the near future. This will be a growing trend over the next several (3 to 5) years. It is important for program and project managers to be at least acquainted with these technologies given the role they will play in these initiatives. It is also important to remember that unlike our typical programs and projects, we do NOT have direct experience, metrics and measures for initiatives including these emerging technologies. That adds risk! We will be embarking on uncharted territories. ProjectManagement.com is an excellent place for all program and project managers to share their experiences and key leanings as each embarks on this new journey. I hope to continue this BLOG in an effort to help in the global collaborative effort that I believe is necessary for all PMs to reduce risks and fulfill the professional duties and responsibilities assigned to as managers of emerging technology enabled programs and projects. After all, they are delivering our future!

| 3D printing is not just one of those new/emerging technologies. In the next few years, is believed that 3D printing will be one of the top technology disruptors that will be impacting virtually every industrial segment - no exception. It is expected to kill millions of jobs while creating far less new jobs. Today, about 18 percent of organizations have 10 or more 3D printers in use according to Gartner. Forecasters believe that the global 3D printing market will robustly grow robustly and reach $21 billion by 2020. One recent publication reported that 2.5 percent of 3D printers are being used to produce products that CAN’T be created using conventional methods? That is a real breakthrough. 3D printing is really early on in its development. Its capabilities and value will only continue to increase and cause disruption to current practices and models as the technology matures. We can all expect more programs and projects involving 3D printing in our future.

Love can sweep you off your feet and carry you along in a way you've never known before. But the ride always ends, and you end up feeling lonely and bitter. Wait. It's not love I'm describing. I'm thinking of a monorail.
