Today, business strategies have become tightly coupled with the continuous infusion of technology. By one measure, this period will be ten times the magnitude of impact as the Internet era of the mid to late 90s. This has many executives demanding accelerated delivery times for programs and projects. In addition, this has created continuous reinvention and reengineering or operational processes and systems. Some are finding this tight coupling quite troublesome given their inability to change and adapt in a timely fashion. All of this has resulted in program and project managers falling under increased pressure for delivery of all that organizations need to adapt to the sea of change in what is being called, ‘real-time-enough’ manner. Here is an interesting publication by Deloitte related to this sea-change: https://documents.dupress.deloitte.com/TechTrends2018

Smart City (from scratch) Project Underway in the USA.
Yahoo recently reported that Bill Gates had purchased 25,000 Arizona acres to build a 'Smart City.' There is little doubt that a program or overall project manager will be put in place. This will be the culmination of multiple technologies, industries and professions and could last upwards of a decade. A few of the emerging technologies that are likely to be a part of this program/project have been briefly covered here on the Emerging Technology Blog and in my articles. In the coming months more of the emerging technologies that are likely to be a part of this initiative will be presented here.
Corporate New Year's Resolution?

Traditionally, many people make at least one New Year’s resolution. A recent corporate interaction makes me wonder if that is becoming a tradition for corporations. At an executive briefing, a few attendees talked about a growing concern they have about emerging technology. When you look at the number of interesting/valuable emerging technologies and the estimated size of that market segment, which certainly is becoming an increasingly challenging issue for many businesses. That also impact program and project management. After thinking about this interaction, I found a study that found that 63 percent of managers feel their organizations adopt new technology too slowly. Is that one of the many New Year’s resolutions corporate executives have for 2018?
