Analysis of emerging technologies and identification of those technologies with the greatest potential is essential to being prepared for upcoming projects. The objective of this blog is to establish future oriented technology analysis and insights. This blog was established to provide program and project managers with information about these emerging technologies. These emerging technologies have far reaching repercussions for program and project managers. This blog will jump-start the learning process and allow program and project managers to become proactive.

Now this may not be surprising, it is deeply concerning. ISACA published their 'Digital Transformation Barometer.' The barometer looks at the impact of digitally literate leaders and the hype vs. reality of emerging technologies.
They determined that 'Only Half of Organizations Say Their Leaders Are Digitally Literate."
How can they set an organizations strategy?

Most in a leadership position today did not have college classes about the Internet or technology when they went! This is a huge challenge.

That only means that we as Project Managers have to speak their language, and flex the communication to the audience we are presenting to. For the most part (unless the person came from a technical background) discussions of features and development cycles does not interest Senior Management. Instead focus on process improvements, savings, ROI (Return On Investment). Simply put, what are the benefits that the company, team, etc. will derive/enjoy from the tech. As soon as you go into what they think of as technobable, you've lost them. When you use their words they will be more willing to listen.

I am more concerned by the fact that " one in four respondents said that their leadership lacked digital literacy". Of course, it begs the question: how well did the respondents know their organization's leadership?
I like the following statement: "Those organizations that include more voices—and stakeholders—in the process [of evaluating emerging technologies] appear to be more successful. "

Begs the question how did they get there?
The job of senior management is to pick the right solutions and the right people to implement those solutions within constraints. Digital literacy speeds up the process of getting information to make those decisions. However, in many cases you can hire digitally literate human resources to fit your needs. I know several highly effective leaders who are not digitally literate, but still get the information they need to make expert decisions.
