A recently published survey found that upwards of 60 percent of those asked said the biggest hurdle to adopting emerging technologies in their organization is "awareness and engagement".  Perhaps this might be a question for you to ask your organization? Perhaps it is a question we should ask ourselves - how ready are we to manage the program and projects that will clearly be a part of the emerging IoT evolution?

Another question we should ask ourselves is: "what am I doing to raise awareness and engagement by my organization into emerging technologies?"

@ Francesco We are way too early into the introduction and evolution of IoT for there to be 'Best Practices.' The best advice I would offer is the unexpected is likely to be the norm and to consider providing a (time and budget) buffer in project and program plans and estimates. The final advice is when someone lists being an IoT 'EXPERT' - be skeptical, do your homework check them out. Hope that helps.
