Technology has been important and is becoming more important to an organization’s success.  Additionally, new technology is a significant factor influencing generational changes that are occurring to most professions.  Evidence suggests that many of our current skill sets that we all trained to acquire is becoming obsolete.  There is no doubt that the introduction of new technologies and the accelerated pace of adoption are behind this change. The accelerated rate of change to skill requirements for many jobs has some questioning if we are in the age where our educational model need to change.  Education needs to be continuous and delivered more rapid than in the past.  When you look at emerging technology projections and their implications, we will need to train a significant number of people.

I was asked an interesting question after delivering an emerging technology briefing.  The questions was, "How big of a challenge do you think it will be to train our current workers to interact with the no-collar (robots and smart interactive machines) workforce that is emerging?   Now that is an interesting question to think about!

Your post has me thinking. We have several robotics programs underway now.

One day when the robots are interviewing us for jobs, that will be interesting.

@ Sante - NOW THAT is an innovative concept that I don't think anyone has considered!

Sante - how would you feel and react if you were interviewed by the IBM Watson intelligence computer system?

It will be as difficult as it was training people on using AutoCAD after years of manually drawing without computers. Things might go south in the beginning but it will go on with a proper learnin curve and plan.

I think some of the changes are already occurring. We use our smart phones and devices like Alexa. Many of our systems already have AI components. Even as I type this a misspelling would be automatically corrected. The concern is when we go from technology aided to technology directed processes.

Kev, I'm actually looking forward to it, if it happens.

I hope it isn't coming tomorrow, as having a robot as a sponsor would be difficult to handle. But probably the PM will also be of same kind by than.

In just looked at the publishing date of a required textbook of a major college in technology. It was published in 2009. Think about all that has taken place since then!

@Sante, I can’t imagine a robot interviewing people because half of the interview is about yow you feel about the person and I am not sure Robots will ever have feelings but maybe, never say never.

Robots interviewing applicants is the next logical step - as Ai backed applicant management systems already do the "paperwork" of screening the CVs including some analysis of how likely it is the candidate will stay, progress to level xy etc...
I'd bet we will then also see the next step on applicant side which would probably be a comany that offers "applicant AI chat bot services" which is using a trained algorythm that gives the best answers to the AI hosting the interview .. and in the end someone will pickup the phone and ask for a face2face interview :)

@Rami I have been researching what is being called the "No Collar Workforce." Basically, that is AI and robotics replacing some human workers. It is also about educating human workers on how to interact with robots - I was shocked to find out while that sounds easy - it is not and is a growing area of research and development.

Good insights, Kev and thanks for sharing. It will be interesting to work with robots and I'm looking forward to it.

In just looked at the publishing date of a required textbook of a major college in technology. It was published in 2009. I also researched the average time to write a textbook (3-4 years) and the time to get a new text used by a class (3/4 to 1 year). So subtract 4 to 5 years from the publishing date to get an idea of the latest date of the content in the published textbook (4-5 years). Think about all that has taken place since then!
