Another interesting conversation broke out that is of value to all program and project management professionals. The subject matters focused on who should you believe – if anyone? A few weeks back a couple of professionals disagreed on a topic and both of them brought a business book in that supported their point of view. Each pointed out that the other side had something to gain by pressing the specific point of view that they had chosen to take on the subject matter. Both authors were reputable and their arguments and justifications were sound. The copyright date of the books happened to be in the same year – so that did not help resolve the issue. They resorted to an online search and, you guessed it, there were plenty of results supporting both sides. So, what do you do when such a predicament arises in a program or project you are managing?

This happens to most 'Agile vs. agile' discussions. :)

Try to reach to a solulion that is mid way between both.
Both authors need to write a book together.

This is an especially common dilemma, but I would have to second finding a shared solution that fits both sides.

Of course! There will always be varying opinions. That is what makes us human. From these differing viewpoints, healthy conversations happen and even new ideas are generated!
Healthy discussion needs to happen between the professionals on their viewpoints and have to decide on an optimum solution pertaining to their organisational context, which would benefit their project / program.
Thanks for sharing, Kevin.

I agree with Girija. Find the best solution to meet the organizational need.

I have the same thing going on right now and for the last 6 months - the project is at a stand-still. Both parties are EVPs

@ Dinah and Girija - your solution is where the heated discussion and disagreement is centered. Both sides are dug in and not moving - no end to this one insight!
Kevin -
Yes, it's just stuck if both sides aren't moving. Very similar to what Brian has mentioned here.
