From the Emerging Technologies Blog
by Kevin Coleman
UPDATED MAY 2020 - This blog will appear monthly from now on. Today, all organizations depend on technological innovation in order to sustain their existence. Analysis of emerging technologies and identification of those technologies with the greatest potential is essential to being prepared for upcoming projects. The objective of this blog is to establish future oriented technology analysis and insights. This blog was established to provide program and project managers with information about these emerging technologies. These emerging technologies have far reaching repercussions for program and project managers. This blog will jump-start the learning process and allow program and project managers to become proactive.

Scientists at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) have just publicly disclosed they have created “a stretchable pressure based strain sensor” (AKA robot skin). It is sprayed on so it is easily fitted to the shape of the robot. This is shown on a video – link below.

It is interesting to think about the application of this robotic skin technology to the rapidly advancing field of robotics that is integrated with artificial intelligence (AI)!

This is really getting freaky !!!!!!
At least we have control over AI today. I give it 50 years max before we lost control.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing.

@ Sante - I think it will be within 5 to 10 years based on what I have seen. This will be accelerated if Quantum Computing becomes more available in the same time period!!
Kev, I was being kind lol. Actually I feel it will be in between my generous "50 years" and your "5 - 10 years). Control is a subjective term. What some mean by loss of control is no turning back, and you may be right in the 5-10 years' timeframe in that regard. What I mean by lost control is that we discover one day 1) AI can think for itself. 2) AI broadcasts an agenda humans aren't agreeable on. 3) Humans meet/discuss/plan a response to reverse that agenda. 4) Humans ultimately fail at implementing that agenda = lost control.
