An interesting question came up in a recent discussion about emerging technologies. How dependent are we currently on technology and how much more dependent will we be in the next 3 to 5 years? Think about that for a moment. Is it possible to go 24 hours without interacting with a microprocessor? Elevators use microprocessors, our smart/cell phones use them, cars use them and they are working on a smart-mirror that has a microprocessor in it as well. Let’s not forget our refrigerators now use them. It recognizes your face and puts up shopping list, your schedule for the day plus it can alert you to a new email. There are a growing number of professionals that are coming to believe that we are technologically dependent and that dependence is only going to increase. A recent poll found that 91% felt their business would be Totally or Very dependent on technology in the next 3 to 5 years. Monitoring the rapid evolution of technology is now mandatory for businesses of nearly any size. Without question, anticipating what is to come and preparing for it is the life preserver in this sea of change.
Note: There are some in the healthcare industry that think we need to take some aspects of technology dependence (Internet, social media, online gaming . . . ) much more seriously. In fact, they refer to it as “technology addiction.”

I think its important to be able to adapt to life without it. Dependence in any form is never good. Suppose something went down and you were without, say, your cloud based project management software for an entire day, could you manage? I personally make it a point to put all electronics aside for some down time, in a drawer, where I can't see or hear them, every so often. I also make it a point to get out and spend some time in nature away from all the noise every so often. It sharpens the brain when you do something completely different from the norm and it helps ease some of the tension. It makes a person more resilient to stress.

This is a true reality that affects most of the developed countries, but are some signs that start to arise from the most advanced countries. I could give you a example, Sweden a cashless society realized that if for some reason the internet system fails or by an cybernetic attack,or by a natural event that make communications become inoperative for a long period of time the citizens could not buy essential goods, he began to advise citizens to keep cash reserves at home to cope with these risks. So I think that these disruptive technological movements sooner or later tend to balance in the same way that nature balances itself, whether by government action or regulation or by society itself.

Technologie is everywhere we look, even the simplest household equipment is technology dependent. Project and corporation are no exception. We are exposed to a growing risk, we need a plan B.
