Emerging Technologies

The concept of a 'virtual nation state' has been around for a few years.  The concept continued to evolve and believe it or not there are a couple of virtual nation-states in existance today.  Just recently, there has been an increase in the number of people flocking to the "BITNATION " a virtual nation state that leverages cryptocurrencies and blockchain.

What happens when someone who is already a citizen living in the United States, Germany, France, Italy or any other country becomes a citizen of a virtual nation-state?

What happens when a business decides it's corporate headquarters is in a virtual nation-state and only transacts business in one or more cryptocurrency?

Would you do business with the virtual company residing in a virtual nation-state and transacting business in cryptocurrencies only?

So many unexplored possibilities that governments and organizations need to be looking at!

The Future Today Institute released their 11th annual Tech Trends report.  In that report they identify 225 'tantalizing advancements' in emerging technologies.  A bit wordy, but for those involved with strategy, emerging technology or technology intensive program or project management worth a look.

Recently, in a speech, Christine Lagarde Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), issued  a warning to financial institutions that . . .

“We are about to see massive disruptions” resulting from the combination of  cryptocurrency and blockchain distributed ledger technologies. She went on to stress that institutions and regulators must  “adjust… to the impact of the combined breakthrough technologies that will impact markets.”

Those are very powerful words, but wait - there's more!

In Bank of America's recent Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing, the bank stated cryptocurrency poses a competitive threat to its business on three separate occasions within the document.

Does your organization accept a cryptocurrency as a form of payment?

I just completed updating my 2018 ongoing monitoring of a suite of emerging technologies. These emerging technologies are beginning to have a global impact that is likely to be 10 times greater (in $$ value) than the Internet Era of the mid to late 90s when I was at Netscape. The implication of each technology is significant. Everything combined into what is being called "The Industrial Revolution 4.0, the implications are far greater than any other period (industrial age 1 thru 3) of dramatic growth in history. The magnitude of change creates substantial issues and opportunities that will likely challenge all professions! Program and project managers will have to deliver initiatives based on these new technologies without the benefit of direct experience and lessons learned!
